Lets put the SUPER in supervision: The importance of supervision for therapists
The importance of supportive and compassionate clinical supervision
Clinical supervision is vital for all healthcare professionals including Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists to provide a safe space to reflect on current clinical practice and setting developmental goals.
We believe that a clinical supervisor should be someone who can support you with clinical decision making, self-reflection and enhance your evidence-based practice.
Why do I need supervision?
- This is a space for therapists to discuss their clinical work and anything that might be coming up for them during therapy (things that are going well and any problems that might be arising)
- To learn more about the theory behind therapy and how to apply this in clinical practice (the NICE guidelines change, and we also need to adapt our practice too)
- Supervision supports the therapist’s wellbeing and offers a supportive space to discuss self-care and development
- Transference and counter transference – thinking about how things might be affecting us. Therapists are human too and sometimes, we may have experienced something similar to our clients and therefore, they made need support around this. On occasion, a therapist might also work with a client who reminds them of someone which may impact the therapeutic relationship if it is not identified or worked through in supervision
- Regular clinical supervision can help us with case conceptualisation and self-reflection including the processes in the therapy room between therapist and client whilst also maintaining boundaries
Supervision with Lifted Therapy:
Here at Lifted Therapy, we value clinical supervision both as supervisors and supervisees. We offer individual and group supervision weekly, fortnightly or monthly to ensure that we can be as flexible as possible for you. We specialise in offering clinical supervision to those working with the CBT model, reflective practices for individuals and services and those working with clients who are experiencing a long-term health condition. Our supervision can be offered remotely (through video using Microsoft Teams) or in person (at our clinic at The Annexe, Odiham Cottage Hospital, RG29 1NE).
All supervision is confidential and there is no identifying information to ensure that client details are protected, and confidentiality maintained.
